Change is sometimes difficult. Perhaps a little extra TLC
can help. As Tatum MS moves toward a professional learning community, our ideas
will be outlined in this section. As this site develops, we will be able to
celebrate how far we have come.
For now, the focus here will be on three of the aspects of a PLC: collaboration,
learning and assessment.
Collaboration
While we are working together to create a PLC and foster student learning,
here are some resources that may help:
- Curriculum Map --
A calendar to foster collaboration across content areas by showing
at a glance what everyone is working on now and in the future.
- Collaborating
with the TIS/Librarian
-- Ideas for research and integrating technology that reflect best
practice learning because they are either constructivist, project/problem-based,
develop critical and/or creative thinking, incorporate cooperative
learning, or all of the above.
- Forum
-- Open discussion to share ideas with one another.
Learning
What should students learn? What are the best ways for students to learn?
- Essential Questions
-- Developing the foundation for what will be learned.
- Best Practices
-- Creating meaningful, motivating assignments in which students
learn is the goal. Here we will share what the research shows works
best.
- Upload
Center -- Add helpful research articles or web sites that reflect
best practice learning.
Assessment
How will we know students have learned? What will we do when they do not?
- Benchmark Testing Tools:
FAKS Online - Region VII's database
of criterion referenced questions.
TAKS
Testing - Examples of previous TAKS tests including interactive
and PDF versions.
- Alternative
Assessment and Evaluation -- Other means of assessing and evaluating
student learning.
- Intervention
Strategies -- What steps will we take as a PLC when students
do not learn? How will we account for individual differences?
